IN DEFENCE OF FASHION

14.5.17

SHOP THE LOOK:

Jacket - ASOS | Trousers - Topshop (similar here and here) | Shoes - Mango | Bag - ASOS

I'm writing this post as I wait for my third ASOS parcel of the week to arrive - between 9:15 and 10:15 - although in my defence, the previous two parcels are to be returned, so I'm not giving myself too much of a hard time. What can I say? I just love shopping!

Clothing is such a huge part of my life. It affects my confidence and overall mood for the day. All my life I've tried to strategically plan out what outfit to wear on which day, with the mentality of never wanting to waste a 'good outfit' on a 'basic day', however I've found my thinking shifting a little of late. On the days where I'm not on the shopfloor at work, I'll tend to stick to my comfies - black jeans and a tee - but why? Why can't I run errands in a tulle skirt and leopard boots? When I put my styling abilities to the test and wear my sassiest of outfits, even to nip to Sainsbury's, my mood is instantly lifted!

I recently found myself in a situation which started this change in thinking. I was called in to do a shift at work to help with delivery, so I put on my most mundane of outfits of which I resembled a 5 year-old boy. My thought process was simply that no one would be seeing me, so why waste a great outfit? Turns out, I ended up on the shopfloor of Topshop for the entirety of my 4 hour shift - all of which I felt utterly crap due to my dull and dreary outfit.

So, now I'm writing this post in defence of fashion. Girls, put on your sassiest of outfits and your favourite shoes and go about your daily activities like a boss. I guarantee you'll never have a dull day if you're wearing an outfit that makes you feel like you could run the world. I'm not even leaving the house today, but I've got on my favourite slogan tee, straight leg jeans and killer orange make-up look.

And I feel fantastic.

  1. I 100% agree with this! I had a teacher in high school who would always tell us to dress up for our final exams; while most students would groan at that thought, whenever I dressed up I always felt better about going into my tests. Now that I'm in uni, I still like to dress up if I have a presentation, even if it's not required to.

    Keep rocking your amazing looks!!
