Betty's Cafe & Tea Rooms: York

7.9.15

Last week I was lucky enough to spend an afternoon with my family at Betty's Cafe & Tea Rooms in York, and it was pretty darn good to say the least. If you don't want to take my word for it, just take a look at those photos! So to start off with we ordered a pot of tea for two, with a smoked salmon and prawn open sandwich as a start, which I shared with my prawn-obsessive father (which he scoffed before I'd even managed to capture the photo), but from the measly nibble I managed to grab, the salmon was cooked to perfection. Definitely one to have for myself next time!

Next up was the Afternoon Tea package, consisting of four types of sandwiches (egg mayonnaise & cress, smoked salmon, roast Yorkshire ham and free range chicken breast), a sultana scone with some incredibly sumptuous sides, and a small array of cakes including a fruit tart, coffee cake and a macaron. Despite this all being beyond delicious, I have to admit that, being the stereotypical Brit, the scone with clotted cream was my favourite and by far the best scone I've ever had! Washed down nicely with some traditional blend of tea, it was heaven for the tastebuds.

Of course I can never leave anywhere without a little peep at the gift shop! I must say, everything made my mouth water, despite being crammed full with all of the tea and sandwiches one can muster. After much deliberation (and a lot of convincing myself that of course it's acceptable to eat eight macarons, three caramel shortbreads and several slices of victoria sponge), I decided on my favourite sweet treat, a caramel shortbread, and a box of macarons (which I definitely didn't buy just for the box...).
